About Peermedu Thekkady
Peerumede, nestled in the Idukki district of Kerala, just 28 km from Thekkady, is a picturesque hill station enveloped by lush green tea plantations. Formerly uninhabited until the 16th century, the region came under the rule of the King of Travancore in 1756. The area saw development when Henry Baker, a Church Mission Society Missionary, initiated coffee and later tea plantations. Notably, Peerumede housed the summer palace of the Travancore kings. During the British Raj in India, Peerumede transformed into an upscale resort, adding to its historical and natural allure.
The landscape of Peermedu includes spectacular waterfalls, rubber plants, tea, coffee, pepper, and cardamom plantations, open grasslands, and pine forests. The cloud-covered hilltops and lush greenery make this an ideal place for a weekend trip. Peermade is also an ideal place for trekking and cycling.
