Thrissur also known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala is known for sacred sites and colorful festivals. The Vadakkumnathan Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and adorned with murals, The ornate, Indo-Gothic Our Lady of Dolours Basilica, Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple, Paramekkavu temple, St. Antony’s Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane, Our Lady of Lourdes Syro-Malabar Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral and India’s first mosque, the Cheraman Juma Masjid are the prominent religious spots.
Guruvayur is home to the historic Sree Krishna Temple, called the Dwaraka of the South. It is among the most revered and popular pilgrimage destinations in Kerala and the entire country. The central shrine is believed to have been rebuilt in 1638 C.E. The architectural style and individual elements inside the shrine are beautiful representations of the history of the place. One can also find images of Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa and Edathedathu Kavil Bhagavathy inside the temple. The healing powers of the shrine drive many to visit it in large numbers. Only Hindus are allowed inside the Temple.
The quiet town of Thalikulam near Triprayar is a cluster of fishing villages. The stunning Thalikulam Snehatheeram Beach is loved for its natural ambience and wonderful visuals of the coast. It is one of the best maintained beaches in Kerala. The sunsets are especially lovely and people flock here in large numbers to enjoy the view. Children throng to the nearby park and occasionally there are musical performances at the nearby stage.
